Your tricks for picking watermelon are the same ones my dad taught me. We go through a lot of water melon but of course even more when the grandkids are here! We're getting one grandson tomorrow for a few days. And yes, I did buy a watermelon today!

I love watermelon, too, as does my son-in-law (native New Orleansian). Though I rarely see my daughter and her family when watermelons are in season, we share stories of the ones we've bought and eaten!

I hope you have a wonderful time visiting with family.

PS--my West VA mother liked to eat watermelon with salt. I used to until I had to greatly reduce my sodium intake.

I haven’t tried watermelon with salt. Maybe I should!

So evocative Barbara we are in winter in Australia but it's also the taste of summer here too!

I'm interested to know what the Raj book is you're going to read?

The book is The British in India, A Social History of the Raj, by David Gilmour. I believe I’ll start it this afternoon!

Here is western Colorado we not only wait for the Palisade peaches, we get equally excited for the Green River melons. 😀

Oh, hey, I never knew about Green River melons. On the Front Range, most of the melons came from Rocky Ford.

We also enjoy keeping watermelon cubes in the fridge, all through the summer. Thanks for the tips on selecting the best melon. Yum!

I live in Mississippi and have my whole life. My mother is the watermelon connoisseur and says Smith County watermelons are the best ones anywhere. I like it but I usually only eat the heart. The part with no seeds. My mama will eat it down to the rind! Do you eat it with salt? Some do some don’t.

I do t eat it with salt, but I do know it’s a thing. Does your mom use the same tricks to choose watermelons?
