After becoming a TN transplant, I've been surprised at the amount of rain we have here. I had the same feeling when we moved to St. Louis. In Idaho, it rained, but since I lived on a reclaimed desert, not much. So when we moved to St. Louis, I finally understood how the pioneers got their wagons stuck in the mud after the rain. See, elementary-level history does stick in your brain.
We have embarked on our 4th winter here in coastal Portugal, and the only commonality is that they’ve all been different. The current one has been colder than the previous three, which is not entirely to my taste, but when sun is out and the wind settles down 58 degrees can feel downright warm, and we’re all out basking in it.
I love the rain, too. And it's a good thing, since I live in Portland. I love cozy and a rainy day is the epitome of cozy. But I have to admit I did revel in those gorgeous sunny days we had!
Here in Syracuse, NY, we have little sun and usually mega snow! The past few years, the winters have been much milder. While I realize that it's due to climate change and I am not happy about that...I cannot complain about a mild winter. I don't like winter but I try not to complain as I LOVE our spring, summer and fall.
I’ve lived much of my life within an hour of the northwest coast. What surprises me in the winter is snow. ❄️ Typically we get lotsa, lotsa rain but not as much as you. 😊 Our rain can go on and on into April and May. Once in a while, though, we’ll have a few wintery days that include snow, sometime between late December and mid-February. For some reason, we’re always surprised. 😂 We came to view the house we now live in during an early February snowstorm and the place looked like a Hallmark movie set. Sold!! 😊
As they say “ I feel seen”! Haha! Monday was amazing! I couldn’t believe it! I still am amazed by people who say they don’t care that much about the sunny days dropped in the middle of days and days and DAYS of grey and rain!! I instantly become so energized!! I lived in Gunnison Co and worked in other places for several years …. Was back to visit a few years ago LOVE IT .
It is raining here on the Gulf coast today. As a new resident I am told this is our 2 weeks of winter. I will not complain though because the camellias have been glorious, blooming in every shade of pink. The shrub roses are still in flower and I almost ran my car off the road trying to identify something blooming in a median by a shopping center. You gave the young man good advice, just hang on there are better days ahead. I wish I had the same spirit of hope for my country but I will not allow despair to ruin my joy when the world brings me flowers everyday!
I'm in SE PA, living near the small river town of Hew Hope. The sub-freezing temps keep people indoors so I get the woods and local walking trails to myself (mostly) and New Hope feels like a place out of time.
PNW winters have become a refuge for me for the first time since moving here early in 1992. Too dark, yes, but quieter and softer than the screaming heat, wildfire smoke, noise, traffic and bright sun which now overwhelms me since moving back to the city from the Olympic Peninsula. I do feel for the guy at the grocery store. Hiking could save him once he learns how to dress for here.

I'm staggered that you've been there four winters! And, honestly, 58 degrees is pretty warm to me.

It was so beautiful, and it looks like more is on the way (except there will be wind here. Always wind, which I am not as fond of!).

It's a beautiful part of the country, for sure!

Serendipity! We get a dusting every winter, but it's always gone in hours. Still, the beach under a coat of snow is beautiful
You must post a snow pic the next time the dusting arrives. 😊

It was SO gorgeous! I had to take my coat off on my walk!

One day at a time....

I think I was in Ireland that week! :)
