Maybe I'm the only one who feels a bit melancholy when fall comes, never ready to shut the door on summer? I'll linger over eating my last tomatoes grown in the pots on the deck, anticipating the change ahead. The days grow shorter and I know what comes after fall, which I really do love. Maybe transitions are just not easy for me, the letting go of each season full of cherished memories.
I think a lot of people mourn the end of summer. My mother does, for sure. I'm such a cold weather person that I welcome the wintery days, but that's just one way of living in the world.
I find great delight in the color-saturated days of autumn, perhaps in part because they are so transitory and thus precious. I put away my iced tea jug and bring out the teapot for a hot cuppa. 🫖 We change the wreath on our front door and hubby puts away the hoses and winterizes the outside taps. I pull out my sweaters and turtlenecks, and though I frequently complain about the damp cold, I fully enjoy the cosy feeling of my winter wear. 😊
Fall is my favorite season by far. I view the cooling temps and colorful trees as nature's permission slip for me to get cozy and read-or write. Thanks for the chili recipe and pic-I think I know what I'll be having for dinner this weekend. :)
We are at 81 today in eastern Tennessee. But my husband has already made a batch of chili. I don't like spicy (at least not at his level) or beans. I'm planning on making some chicken soup to freeze for lunches. I'm way behind on my next deadline (today) but I've already asked and received a generous extension. Helene threw me for a loop, emotionally and added an unplanned trip so we could camp with internet AND water - utilities we didn't have at home. It's the little things. Now to find a chimney sweep in our area.
I looooove that we are leaving DST behind. I vastly prefer more light in the morning, not evening.
It's not shorter days--they're just apportioned differently...
(And thanks for the recipe!)
It gets very, very dark in the mornings here, so I used to dislike switching, but I'm okay with it here in Oregon.
We are about 40 miles from the central time zone, so it stays dark here until 8 am in late October. Ugh.

I love cozy winter wear, but it’s true the damp cold can be sometimes penetrating.

It’s that going inward feeling—so rich for those of us who love writing and reading.
I hope those two men got off the beach. That sea is a mighty force not to be fooled with.
The chili recipe looks very yummy. I have added it to my recipe folder. Thanks for sharing.
I saw them walking back up the hill, safe and sound.

I can’t imagine how hard it must be to reckon with a hurricane! Hope it all settles soon.
I always forget the slow cooker!
Cause it takes longer to cook things? I have finally stopped burning my lips on tea here at sea level.
